Practical Self Defense Seminars™ FAQs

Will I really learn techniques that I can use and remember after attending one of your seminars?

Yes, absolutely.  Our seminars teach simple concepts that can be applied in a multitude of circumstances.  Many people find it helpful to bring a small pad and pen or pencil to take notes that help them recall the techniques long after the seminar is over.

What should I wear?

Participants should wear comfortable clothes and shoes. If ladies wear dresses they should be loose fitting and at least knee length.

Is there an age requirement?

There is a minimum age of 13 to participate, but there is no maximum age limit.  Techniques are tailored to each person’s age and physical abilities.

Do I have to be in good shape?

You should be healthy enough that you can perform normal daily functions.  OK, what does that mean?  A good rule of thumb is that you should be able to walk comfortably for about 20 minutes without being winded.  (Think about parking your car at the mall and then going shopping.)  If you can do that then you can participate in a seminar.

Are there different levels of seminars?

Yes, there are two.  The Basic seminar will teach you practical self defense techniques for some typical situations.  Most of the defenses will be against a weaponless attacker, but we will cover some basic knife defenses.  The Advanced seminar will concentrate on more weapon defenses including gun defenses.  All of the seminars are designed to be easy to remember, practical and effective.  The Basic seminar is a prerequisite for the Advanced seminar.

We would normally schedule the Advanced seminar for the next meeting date of your group (the next week or month) rather than trying to do both seminars in one night.

How long does a seminar last?

Each seminar lasts about an hour and a half.

Can my group use this as a fundraiser?

Yes!  Depending on the number of participants and the location of the seminar your group can retain as much as 50% of the seminar fee.

How much does it cost?

The average fee is about $20 per person. This depends on location, number of participants and your fundraising needs.

Is there a minimum or maximum number of people needed to hold a seminar?

Generally speaking, the minimum number of participants is 8-10.  A comfortable maximum is 30, but we can accommodate higher numbers if we have a head count in advance.

Where are the seminars held?

The seminars are held at a meeting location of your choice.  The instructor will come to you, you don’t have to come to the instructor.
